This works on ALL PS3´s EXCEPT the 40gb.
Psxloader works on FW 1.6 to the current FW 2.4. Untested before 1.6
Swapmagic cd, ISN´T, HASN´T and will probably never be patched not to load(although they might be able to patch USB access. The cd(3.6, 3.8) has the boot of the ps2 game CRAZY TAXI. are they going to stop that game from booting? Someone asked how come the SM disk can load. thats how because they stole the boot sequence from a ps2 game. before that they used Datel´s boot.
Besides Sony "patched" this when they stopped all models except the 40gb
If your SM cd doesn´t boot on your NTSC console then you probably have a faulty disk. There are plenty of them. I still have a faulty SM 3.0 cd that I got stuck with.
I´m not sure about the ID of the SM dvd but it must also be from a ps2dvd game. It didn´t boot on the pal ps3 with 1.5 FW. it started working either on 1.6 or 1.7, don´t remember
This only works with SM 3.6+ and 3.8 coder because that´s when they implented usb access. SM 3.8 has better usb compatibilty.
If your usb pen drive just blinks and then nothing, then it´s not compatible. That´s why I tell people to try and load the simple grafics demos 1st, to test usb compatibilty.
The PSP is fully compatible. If you have a external usb HDD, use that it should be compatible as long as it´s formatted to FAT32.
USB pen drives are very picky. I have about 12 and only 2 load with SM 3.6, and 5 with SM 3.8coder. Adata , Philips and Intuix pen drives seem compatible. I´ve had more luck with pens that say compatible with Win 98 SE.
People have also had some luck with other usb devices like digital cameras, ipod, etc
all devices must be USB 1.1 compatible
So the info should be changed to WORKS with ALL PS2 compatible PS3´s
The only system I´m not 100% sure about is the Japanese console.
oh ya, nice tutorial, lolittle

Run emulators from XMB (SNES, Sega etc..)
If you have a PAL PS3 with backwards compatibility (20/60gb SKU), then you are now able to play emulators on the PS3 via Swap Magic (No Linux installation needed). This method reportedly works on up to firmware 2.40.
As of now it is not possible to play emulators this method on NTSC (USA) consoles (Swap Magic was patched). [UPDATE]: We have reports that this method does work on 20/60gb NTSC SKU's that are running on firmware 2.10 (Anything above not tested as of now).
Here are two video demonstrating running SEGA and SNES emulators (Videos by ricardoG):

No Trophies in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare per Infinity Ward
Per Fourzerotwo from Infinity Ward: With the latest PlayStation 3 Firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
"At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule."
We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after.
Update: Via Sony's online help desk in response to the 2.4 issues:
"The PLAYSTATION 3 system software version 2.40 has been temporarily taken offline and will not be available for download as our engineers examine any possible issues with this update. The Knowledge Center will be updated with information as it becomes available; please check back here for further details."
After countless reports of problems across the Internet caused by the long-awaited PS3 2.40 Software Update, Sony has gone ahead and pulled the update.
Many users have been a bit befuddled, after being able to access PSN with only 2.36, however on a check of the latest available firmware, it is indeed listed as 2.36.
We can only assume that there is a major bug in the newest release. One would assume it would be detected and patched before it was rolled out en-masse, however it appears that it was not.
The big question, aside from 'When is 2.40 coming back out?' is that will Sony repair consoles that this update broke without cost, or will they still insist on charging their repair fee?
According to PS3NEWS member boonflop, Sony insisted on charging him, once his PS3 bricked after updating to 2.40. Hopefully Sony they will change their tune after this debacle, and fix these consoles for free.
The anticipated firmware 2.30 is now live. As expected it brings in the new PS store, but no home or in-game-xmb. Sony had disappointed me once again. tell me what you think...

New PlayStation Store Design Coming Soon, Says Sony
Following confirmation from SCEA director of product development John Hight that the PlayStation Store would receive a visual revamp in April, Sony today updated the store with a fairly large banner advertising that a “Great new look is coming soon.”
We already knew that, but further confirmation is always welcome.
Yet to be revealed, the new design is said to sport a sleek, clean look with simplified navigation that will make the store easier to browse and find the items you’re looking for.

Notice: PlayStation Network Security Breached
The official UK PlayStation Web site has issued a notice warning users that a security flaw was found in the PlayStation Store for PC, allowing unauthorized individuals to possibly gain access to personal information.
While the security issue has since been rectified, a small percentage of users may have had their account compromised.
Sony is directly contacting individuals that may have been affected by the incident and is urging all users to log-in to the service. If your pre-set password works, then your PSN account was not compromised.
To quote: Notice to PLAYSTATION®Network Users
We have found out that there has been a possibility of unauthorized access to personal information on the PLAYSTATION®Store through PCs, a content download service of the PLAYSTATION®Network. Although unlikely, it is possible that the passwords of a small percentage of PLAYSTATION®Network users may have been changed through unauthorized access, making it possible to view users’ personal information and/or use the Wallet for the PLAYSTATION®Store. PLAYSTATION Network accounts do not display entire credit card numbers, so any unauthorized access to your PLAYSTATION Network account is very unlikely to compromise your credit card number.
We have taken immediate measures to rectify this issue and system security is restored.
We have investigated the extent of unauthorized access and possible alteration of passwords that could have occurred before corrective measures were taken, and are directly contacting customers who may have been affected by this incident. In order to verify that your account is intact, we strongly suggest that PLAYSTATION®Network users sign in to the service. If you can successfully sign in with your pre-set password, your account is not affected by this incident.
For more information, please contact Customer Service.
Remember; do not disclose your log-in or password details on any email communications.
